Hôpital Alma Mater is a 60 bed Catholic hospital located in an impoverished rural region in northwest Haiti.  

  • Founded in 1969 by the local Gros Morne community under the leadership of a German Catholic Montfortain priest

  • Currently sponsored by Caritas of Gonaives

  • Overseen by a Board of Directors drawn from the local religious and civic community

  • Only hospital providing medical care for a community of 145,000 residents

  • Alma Mater has progressively increased the variety and quality of services

  • Incorporated green energy with recent installation of 100 kW solar system provided by EDF (Fondation Électrcité de France)

  • Haiti's vulnerability to natural disasters, as well as the growth of our local population, has lead to the need for a $1.3 million expansion and reconstruction project which includes:

    • An expanded emergency area

    • General medical and specialty outpatient clinics

    • Increased diagnostic services

    • Administrative offices

    • Expanded social services
